About Farah Khuzouz, LMFT

Your story deserves to be understood in its full context.

I'm Farah Khuzouz, a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist (LMFT) in New York State and the therapist behind Stories in Context. I offer online therapy to couples, families, and individuals — including adolescents, international students, and immigrants — located anywhere in New York State.

I work with people navigating relationships, identity, cultural background, life transitions, anxiety, depression, trauma, and intergenerational patterns. My approach is rooted in empathy and narrative therapy: the belief that you are the author of your own story, and that your culture, family, and relationships are essential context — never a footnote.

My professional experience includes university counseling centers, outpatient clinics, crisis centers, school-based settings, and foster care. My goal is to create a warm, culturally responsive space where couples, families, and individuals can navigate challenges and find resilience together.

Who I Work With

Culturally responsive therapy for Arab, Middle Eastern & SWANA communities

Stories in Context was built for people whose culture, language, and faith are central to who they are. I offer online therapy to Arab, Middle Eastern, and SWANA (Southwest Asian and North African) individuals, couples, and families across New York State — including Muslim and Arab Christian clients, first-generation and immigrant adults, expats, and international students.

I also work closely with interfaith and intercultural couples and families: partners from different religions, cultures, or countries who are building a shared life while honoring where each of them comes from.

What We Work On

Where therapy can help

Whatever brings you in, we'll make sense of it within your full context — your relationships, culture, family history, and the moment you're living through.

"Your culture is not a footnote, it's the context."
My Approach

A narrative approach to therapy

Narrative therapy is a collaborative, respectful approach that sees you as the author of your own story — not as a problem to be fixed. The name Stories in Context comes from this idea: that the way you understand yourself is shaped by the personal, cultural, and family narratives you carry.

In plain terms, we slow down and look at the stories you've come to believe about who you are and what's possible. We gently separate you from the problem, notice the values and strengths that are already there, and work together to retell the chapters that no longer fit.

Culturally responsive by design

As a culturally responsive Marriage and Family Therapist, I hold space for the languages, values, faith, and family systems you come from. Sessions are available in English and Arabic, and you're always the expert on your own life and culture.

Couples are the practice's primary focus, and common areas of work include communication, intimacy, affairs and infidelity repair, and intercultural or interfaith relationships.

Do you offer therapy in Arabic?

Yes. I offer therapy in both Arabic and English, and you're welcome to move between the two languages during a session. As an Arabic-speaking, culturally responsive Marriage and Family Therapist, I work with Arab, Middle Eastern, and SWANA individuals, couples, and families across New York State who want to be understood in their own language and cultural context.

Do you work with Arab, Middle Eastern, or SWANA clients and interfaith couples?

Yes. Culturally responsive care for Arab, Middle Eastern, and SWANA communities is at the heart of this practice — including Muslim and Arab Christian individuals and families, first-generation and immigrant clients, and interfaith or intercultural couples. Sessions are available in English and Arabic to anyone located in New York State.

How does narrative therapy work in this practice?

Narrative therapy is an approach that sees you as the author of your own story rather than as a problem to be fixed. Together we look at the personal, cultural, and family narratives that shape how you see yourself, and we work to separate you from the problem so you can retell the parts of your story that no longer fit. It's collaborative, respectful, and grounded in your own values and context.

Do you take insurance?

Stories in Context is a private-pay practice and also accepts some insurance plans. If you have out-of-network benefits, I provide a monthly superbill you can submit to your insurer for possible partial or full reimbursement. Session fees are listed on this page.

Can you help with cultural or intergenerational family conflict?

Yes. Culturally responsive care is central to this practice, and I regularly work with families navigating intergenerational patterns, differing values across generations, and conflict tied to culture, migration, or faith. Sessions are available in English and Arabic.

Do you work with international students and immigrants?

Yes. I support international students and immigrants adjusting to life in the United States, including challenges with identity, belonging, homesickness, academic pressure, and family expectations. All sessions are online and available to anyone located in New York State.

Where are sessions held?

Stories in Context is an online-only (telehealth) practice with no physical office. Sessions are held by secure video, so you can attend from anywhere you are located within New York State.

What happens in a first therapy session?

The first session is a relaxed conversation where we get to know each other, talk about what brings you in, and see whether we're a good fit — with no pressure or obligation to continue. You're also welcome to start with a free 15-minute consultation call beforehand.
